Why do I have high EMF readings in my home? High EMF is produced by grounding systems, old or improper wiring,
electric power service, cellular phones, some home security systems and most appliances
(like computers and television sets). Electric and magnetic fields are invisible lines of force
that are created with the production, transmission, and use of electric power (ie. high-voltage
transmission lines, secondary power lines, or home wiring and lighting). These fields also arise
from the motors and heating coils found in most electronic equipment and appliances.
The most visibly obvious EMF sources are power lines, pole-mounted transformers and substations.
However you do not have to live near power lines to have residential EMF problems.

Is EMF important when buying or selling a home? Yes. Regardless of whether you are a buyer or renter, checking for high
EMF readings before you move in is imperative. Property values around the country are constantly
affected by high EMF readings. In 1993, The Wall Street Journal reported that the real estate resale
value of homes decreased by as much as 30%, if exposed to high EMF readings.
This is oftentimes why banks or mortgage lenders mandate these readings in order to predict any future problems.

How does EMF affect my health? Because electric power surrounds our daily life, we are constantly exposed to electric and magnetic fields.
There are not any known health risks that have been conclusively proven as being caused by living near high-voltage power
lines. However this is not to say that there may not be a health risk. Scientists have been unable to show that low-level
EMFs are completely risk free. Most believe that exposure to the low-level EMFs near power lines is safe.
Though scientists continue research to identify possible health risks associated with these fields.
If there are any carcinogenic health risks associated with living near power lines,
then it is clear that those risks are small. At this time the link between cancer and exposure to
EMFs has not been chained because the basic nature of EMFs and biological processes leading to cancer is not understood.
